Dynaudio Unheard Interview: Ida Corr
309 views
Their live take was laid down over a produced backing track, which was then recreated instrument by instrument – piano, cajon, acoustic guitar and stacked vocals, all backed by a click-track to keep everything synced.
We met up with Ida Corr after her recording session to learn about her approach in the recording room, and the hours, weeks and months of work it took to break through as a musician.

Plus hi Nicole ha Dalia Anna's feeling it denied your studio so we have allocated about Fantastico fluency I am yeah clearly smoke I had its killed hello and welcome to dine Audion heard my name is Christopher and I'm your host my next guest is no stranger to the studio with four studio albums already she has also had several chart-topping singles both nationally and internationally eda thank you so much for taking time out to be here with us thank you thank you you you've just been in the Dynaudio and unhurt mobile studio or let's call it what it is it's a big container yeah how was it I think it's one of those experiences I've never tried anything like that that's usually you know studio time it's only for musicians and you're like doing stuff over and over again it may be a little bit boring I think for an audience and I was kind of scared at the board you know do they understand what we're doing and something like that but actually I kind of liked it it gets you you need to do it a little better a little faster than usual in the studio so you need to get your act straight and one of the other artists who went through the the studio described it a little bit as being an efficient and aquarium right totally 100% oh yes that's the experience and it is as I've talked to other artists about you know most people when they go in the studio it's just sweatpants a t-shirt and then you do your thing for how long ever you want yeah yeah it's so so different yeah usually you can go hours and hours and hours and and you know you just go but that's I think the kind of creative process comes you know it gets a little bit stronger because you need to like get something done in a few hours and then you just you up yourself and I hope your game is like searching yeah I want to talk a little bit about how you approached your time in the recording studio yeah and you can you take me through what it was that you guys wanted to achieve well first of all it was a totally new song we've never played it before and we me to find out kind of like we wanted to do it and the form of the song the vibe of the song and so we just started playing everything all together a couple of times just kind of felt the vibe and yeah and familiar with from then on we just layered it with vocals and you know if we needed to do something different we just fix it like that but yeah so it's kind of like an organic approach today you talked about you did like pieces thought you did the whole song and tried that out and then did pieces can you explain what the benefit of doing it like that is of doing like the old song what do you know you talked about you know you you did the whole song and you went back in and you did some pieces of it you did back up vocals and so you layered it on top of each other I think when you're doing like that when you get the whole song and you play together you kind of get another dynamic and you get the vibe of the song and and if you cut it up too much you just it's gonna get you know it needs some soul and needs you know that the body the the core of the song and you'll get that by just playing it together and finding each other and then you can always layer it with you know backing vocals and stuff like that so you don't have to think about the extras while you're doing is you can just like a concentrate them on the song as a whole perfect what did it take for you to break through with your music it's that's a hard question you know because breaking through with music it's a lot of things there's a lot of talented people out there who are not who has not broken through and maybe you never will and that's a lot of you know it's a lot of luck it's a lot of timing and it's a lot of hard work so for me I've played music all my life since I was six years old so I've just you know done it again and again and again and I've I've had the you know luxury of trying all sorts of different stuff you know trying to be like the cover band playing it wedding stuff like that and then doing my own solo album was being in bands I've kind of tried it all so I think persistence timing luck and of course a little bit of talent of no of course you need to have something to you know give you talk about persistence yeah what is it that makes you personally want to go through the color band period the let's play at weddings and confirmations and all that stuff yeah it's passion no no doubt about it I've been in love with music since I could walk and talk and I think there's a lot of hardcore things in this business and it's you know there's a lot of downsides but but you know if you keep the passion and the love Fred you yeah I don't have a choice actually I think I've always felt like the music chose me and not the other way around so it's what I do it's who I am so yeah back in in 2007 you had a major hit yeah I was seventeen at that time so I've definitely listen to it a lot yeah but what does having a hit song like that mean for your career at that time I think I had one album in the back of my second album and I've been touring a lot and I have as I said before I've been doing music all my life so I've you know but it's been in Denmark it's been nationally and and when let me think about it like hit the world like it did it just opened up the world to me I got to do what I've always been doing but now internationally and travel a lot see a lot of countries meet a lot of different people and and also you know it's easier to have people listen to you when you have a hit you know and there are labels managers and stuff like that you know and and kind of respect what you're saying what you do I've always wanted to write my own songs and do my own stuff and that gets easier when you have it that's a big hit you want to listen there yeah and so so it kind of opened doors internationally if you little definitely yeah after after let me think about it I had a lot of international successes and as I said people want to listen you know the radio stations I'm more interested in what you're doing and stuff like that so it gets it gets easier but you still still hard work yeah and let me think about it i I just checked off on it and it went number one both in the US and the UK on top dance charts and it went number two on the overall singles charts in the UK so really wasn't big hip I I can imagine what you felt but I would much rather want you to put some words to it well actually in the beginning I was like I just worked you know when the track was going and I worked within and I just did a lot of shows I did for five years I did like between 200 and 250 shows every year and so let us show so I was just running very fast but I think the feeling was more than you know I think every songwriter wants to do that you know in your song out there and you know all the way from you know Europe to Asia through Africa and just feel like you are communicating with people all over the world and and it was a it's hard to explain but it's kind of like hitting the jackpot not in a financial way but just like okay I kind of did everything from here it's kind of just pluses you know it's yeah it's a big big big experience and I'm very grateful you mentioned that you played where was the 200 to 250 shows a year every year no I have no idea and I would not be able to do it this thing yeah I was just you know living outside of living in the suitcase is traveling around and just going with the flow and I've always always always brought friends or family with me on tour so so I wouldn't get lonely or caught up in it and you you kind of everything is it's it's glamorous but at the same time you're very alone and you meet people everyday people you don't know new clubs new promoters new you know hotels and everything and for me just having a friend or a family with me just made me like appreciate everything even you know two three years in in the touring and it's just so much fun and yeah I would definitely say that everybody who has to work like that you need to have your friends your family join in and that's that's a big key to and I guess that having that drive that passion we were talking about earlier it's also crucial because to I can't even begin to imagine how many travel days are because you got to travel in between shows and it's like it must be constant it is it is constant but you know at the time I didn't have a child I was you know I had my boyfriend he lived in Oslo and I could just like go back and forth and you know the counted you know just land and also say hi to him and travel from there I go to the next place back to us and then mark pack the new suitcase going like it was kind of my life yeah and the fact that again that I brought family and friends made it kind of like you know it's it's it's a big experience you need to go with the flow you need to feel that when you when you have the possibility and you have this big big chance yeah but again I don't I don't I don't think I could do it today actually I'm yeah I get tired I don't that sounds insane I get tired when I have 10 travel days in a row either I have one final question yeah if you could give one piece of advice to upcoming artists people who are on the verge of saying okay I want to go full-time with my music what would that be the best advice is to do it from inside and out not outside in do not be bothered with what other people think in a creative way there are people much more clever and you know how to pack it how to sell it how to probably do listen to them do not think you can do everything because you cannot but remember that your art is your art so if you do it because you love it you really need to keep that because that's what you have that's what you get when times get tough when things get great when things go low you have your passion so remember inside out and not outside in inside out yeah thank you so much for being here and for sharing your music and tips with us my pleasure and thank you for watching [Music] you [Music]
