Welcome to Dynaudio. My name is Otto. I am product training manager. I'm here today to show you the Contour i series. For Dynaudio, Contour is a very unique loudspeaker. It's the quintessential Dynaudio product. This is where we are able to put all of the things we would like to give you as a customer in the loudspeaker. Put that in the product at the quality level that we really want everyone to perceive. It really has all of the details that we consider traditional Dynaudio values inside one product. So those values are craftsmanship in terms of both the drivers and the cabinets and the whole construction of the loudspeaker, the assembly of the loudspeaker. Every little detail of that has been optimised to perfection. When we introduced Contour in 1986, that template became a staple inside Dynaudio of how to build a really good loudspeaker. Its consists of high quality drivers, beautiful craftsmanship. Everything optimised for optimal performance Throughout the eighties and nineties, the Contour series really became a benchmark, not just to Dynaudio but also inside the industry. For almost 20 years, the original Contour design was really the core of Dynaudio. So in 2003 we made the bold move of completely reinventing what a Contour is. So we made a new design with a steel front baffle and a completely different approach to the design and the acoustic design of the speaker. That really raised the bar on the performance and the craftsmanship that we put into the speaker. In 2016, we did this once again with the current design of the Contour, which is a rounded design, an aluminium baffle that's a lot thicker than you think when you see it. And there's a lot of details in here that just completely changed the game in terms of the performance we can achieve in a Contour speaker. One of the defining features of the latest Contour series is of course the aluminium baffle. So it's designed to be very sleek, very elegant profile, but actually is a 14 millimetres thick aluminium plate which makes it very heavy, very dense, which makes a great symbiosis with the MDF cabinet. So essentially the resonance of the battle is different than the rest resonance in the cabinet. So when you put the two of them together, they basically stop each others resonances. So you have a very dead cabinet, which is great for audio. A very important effect in the loudspeaker is what's called diffraction. So if you have a sharp edge on the cabinet, the sound waves coming from the drivers will actually reflect off those edges and create an interference. And we don't want that of course. So by rounding the edges you actually improve the sound quite significantly. The update to the Contour i series in 2020 really enabled us to achieve the best performance we are able to supply. We consider the Contour the staple of Dynaudio. So this is where we can achieve really high performance at a pretty good value. When we invented new technologies for Confidence and to a certain extent Evoke, we looked into how could we integrate that into the Contour series. Part of that was the Hexis – the inner dome that we have in our tweeters – that was developed for Confidence. Since that was already in Confidence and Evoke, we felt we had to put that into the Contour series. And the interesting part is that once you change one part of the design, you create a snowball effect. Cabinet is different, crossovers are different, drivers are different. You know, even the placement of the terminals is different. All of those small details, small changes, they all sum together to a quite significant audible change. The Contour i is the result of not resting on our laurels. You know, we already had great products in the history of Contour, but we keep on improving those and implementing the newest technologies and the discoveries we have in our research. What we really want to achieve is a level of performance where you are not actually listening to the speaker, you're listening to the music, you want to keep listening. You don't know what music to put on next. You want to hear the next track, but you also don't want to cut off the track that's already playing. That's really what we want you to feel when you're listening to the Contour speaker. The Contour is where you start reaching that level of performance where the speakers disappear and it just becomes a window into your music, into a different world. There is a responsibility in having created a product that has become an icon in the industry for almost 40 years. So that puts a pressure on us. This is not just any Dynaudio speaker, this is the Contour. So with that comes an obligation for us to actually deliver on the promise that we have created with the Contour. And I feel like we really did that with the Contour i. By integrating every technology that we have in the best way possible in this product. The latest iteration of Contour i is available in three finishes. So first of all, we have the traditional high gloss black, which is a very, very high quality. I call it glass-like finish. It has this mirror like effect that's really beautiful. We also have walnut, real wood veneer, which again is a brown, very popular wood finish. And now we are introducing a third finish, which is the Nordic silver. So the new Nordic silver veneer that we have chosen for Contour i is engineered veneer. It's made from sustainably sourced poplar and the poplar is then sliced up into thin sheets. The sheets are then died in different colours, and are then re-laminated back together to create a new trunk basically. And this trunk can be sliced in a multiple different ways to get different patterns. We get this unique looking veneer. We were inspired by the very crispy, cold forest winter landscapes of Scandinavia. We have these very cold grey tones and the textured bark on the trees and we wanted to get this authenticity through on the finish on the Nordic Silver as well. So what we have done this also worked a lot with the lacquer thickness. It is just thick enough to protect the veneer so you don't have to worry about it. But it's also thin enough for you to still feel the grain through the lacquer. In my opinion, it is the best Contour we ever created. So when people think of Dynaudio, very often they really think about Contour. This is the speaker that the other speakers want to be when they grow up.
